About HK-VR

heuser + kuhnert VR was founded by Benjamin Heuser and Christoph Kuhnert in August 2017.

The development of virtual reality applications began much earlier though, as part of our work as Naval Architects in custom yacht building.

As part of the owner's representative organisation, we sat at the interface between the customer on the one hand and the shipyard, designers and other suppliers on the other. In this position, we were regularly confronted with the challenge of presenting the complex information that arises during the design of a yacht to the customer in a clear and unambiguous way, so that even the layman could grasp all the details and provide well-founded feedback.

In many cases, the classic technical drawings and flat visualisations were too abstract or confusing to convey a realistic impression of freedom of movement, accessibility, proportions and, more importantly, a sense of space. Virtual reality seemed to be the ideal tool here.

Within our projects at the time, we began to make 3D models, which were already available as the basis for the drawings and visualisations, virtually accessible here and there. The much faster and more comprehensive understanding of the design that the VR models enabled in the owner's team was so convincing that one of our customers soon commissioned us to model their entire 100m+ motor yacht as a VR model.
